Recently, the National Aquaculture Project was signed between the Argentinian Agroindustry Ministry and Norway. The agreement came to be from the work of the ministry along with Innovation Norway, and the Argentinian Agency of Investment and International Commerce.

This signature ensures the cooperation of both nations in the exploration of the Beagle Canal in Tierra del Fuego, looking for the potential of aquaculture development in the area.

“The idea of focusing on aquaculture came from the fact that Argentina, much like Chile, offers important possibilities for the development of this industry,” declared Ambassador Betina Alejandra Pasquali.

She commented that these possibilities go well beyond the natural geographical resources. Argentina also possesses the means to ensure the feeding of the stocks and has the human resources to back up the growing industry.

“There are important tax incentives for the development of this industry that may transpire as tax reduction credits,” stated the Ambassador. She highlighted the possibility of cooperation from the Agency of Investment as well in the form of consultancy and assistance to foreign investors interested in the industry.

The fishery industry in Argentina is old, as is the relationship with Norway in it. “There are Norwegian companies and subsidiaries that have been in Argentina for more than 25 or 30 years,” declared Ambassador Pasquali.

The fishing fleet in Argentina is to be renewed, which opens huge opportunities for investment in the industry and the country. Argentina is an important fish producer, having a coastline that spans for more than 5000km. Ambassador Pasquali declared there are already companies interested in investing, not only from Norway, but there is still opportunity to participate.

As it is now, Argentina is positioned as a very attractive opportunity for investment as the infrastructure is there to support the resources. “We have a very modern and stable infrastructure. We have more than 40 port areas, 52 airports, and many important roads have been modernized. There is a whole infrastructure that would enable investors to distribute and export their products easily,” pointed Ambassador Pasquali.
